Have you visited Mexico’s one true bike-friendly destination?

Bicycles are no longer just a way to work out: they’ve become a lifestyle for people who love sustainable, comfortable and practical transportation. Once you try riding in Playa del Carmen you’ll understand why.

In an ever-growing city like this, it might even feel unusual to be able to ride a bike so easily, without worrying about cars, and even on paths especially designed for your cycling pleasure.

It’s also important to note that, unlike other cities, Playa del Carmen has a very relaxed dress code, meaning you’ll be able to ride more comfortably even if you’re going to work.

And what can we say about the many views you’ll come across when riding your bike? Beaches, breeze, an amazing commercial area that you can ride through in just a few minutes—unless you decide to stop along the way without having to worry about your bike’s security.

You don’t even have to buy one. Playa del Carmen’s wide range of touristic and commercial options includes plenty of spots where you’ll be able to rent one of these wonderful means of transportation to ride and enjoy in a way not many people get to experience.

If you’re staying at Happy Address and you’d like to enjoy riding in Playa del Carmen, let us know how many bikes you’d like and what sizes and models you’d be interested in (a road bike, mountain bike, city bike, touring bike or just any bike) and we’ll do our best to help you.

Kantunchi Ecopark: four cenotes that can’t be missed in the Mayan Riviera

We’re sure the following names don’t mean anything to you: Sas ka leen ha, Uch Ben Ha, Zacil Ha, Kantun Chi.

No, they’re not a tongue twister created to invoke some Mayan deity that makes it rain. These are the names of the four cenotes that make up the Kantunchi Ecopark, one of the most unforgettable tours available on your next vacation to the Mayan Riviera.

The park is only 22 km (13.5 mi) from Playa del Carmen and can be reached by bus using Federal Highway 307, or you can board a bus on Fifth Avenue that runs every day from 9 am to 5 pm that will take you to this charming ecopark.

Sas ka leen Ha, whose name means “transparent water,” is the park’s largest cenote. Inside you’ll find a Mayan structure that was most likely used for ceremonies.

Uch Ben Ha is a small rest stop along your journey. With hammocks and calm, crystal-clear waters, it’s the ideal space to relax in nature and spend a pleasant moment.

Zacil Ha is a cenote that invites exploration, adventure and an interaction of light and shadow that only those who have descended into the heart of the Mayan Riviera will understand. If you have an underwater camera, you can’t miss this chance to dive down and record this incredible cenote.

Finally, there’s Kantun Chi, a cenote in the heart of a tropical jungle with exuberant greenery, home to flora and fauna you’ve never imagined.

It’s very easy to get to Kantun Chi from any of Happy Address‘ locations; if you prefer, you can rent a car and go at your own pace, without worries.

The importance of being early at Playa del Carmen bars

When it comes to fun and partying, the number one rule is there are no rules. But when it comes to nightlife, while it’s important to note that there is no written rulebook, there are a few recommendations to consider to make sure the fun never stops.

We know the best parties aren’t restricted by time and it’s lame to arrive early to the party, but there are some reasons why it’s better to be early to Playa del Carmen’s nightlife, one of the most vibrant, fun and music-filled in the world.

Arriving early is one of the best-kept secrets of having fun in Playa del Carmen.

Really.

Yes, we know nobody does it, but we have a list of reasons that will make you want to be there on time.

You’ll find the best spots

Arriving early will allow you to choose the best seats in the bar or club; while it may seem things are moving slow at the beginning, this is a great idea for those who don’t look forward to dancing until the sun comes up. Getting a good table will also get you better service. If you’re the type who needs to use the restroom after the first drink, your body will thank you for planning your strategy.

Better prices

Plenty of bars offer special prices, promotions and packages for early birds. Some even include dinner so you won’t start the party on an empty stomach.

More time to enjoy

How many bars and clubs can you visit in one night? Maybe not so many, but it sure is worth trying to make the most of a place such as Fifth Avenue, where there are so many bars and places to discover.

You can move on without ruining your night

If there’s anything you don’t like about your current location, you can find room at the next place without worrying about people, time or distance.

The night is young, but you might not be

If your idea of fun is a more relaxed evening instead of a large number of activities, arriving early at the bars or restaurants in Playa del Carmen will help you to better organize your time and have fun.

Remember, it’s always a good idea to stay in the center of it all; Happy Address is a great option for those looking to enjoy Fifth Avenue to the fullest.

Forever alone no more: different ways to enjoy Valentine’s Day

Just as it happens with the winter holidays, Valentine’s Day has both people who dread it and people who can’t wait to make the most of it and celebrate in amazing, original ways. And if you think by original we mean covering your Valentine’s car with post-its, you’ve never heard about how Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the Caribbean.

But wait! Before all this talk about Valentine’s Day gets you down, fearing being hashtagged #foreveralone for life, or reaching out for the phone to call your ex, you should know there’s something special about the way we celebrate in the Caribbean: everyone gets to have a good time.

That’s why Playa del Carmen is the perfect place to celebrate in your own way, even if you’re on flying solo. Would you like to find out more about the options offered by this wonderful destination?

For those traveling with friends

In Mexico, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love and friendship. That gives it a brand new twist if you’re spending it with your crew. Your friends know you better than anyone, and you know them better than anyone, so begin your night with a few drinks at the bar of your choosing, with either a light dinner or a feast. Dessert, because sugar is everywhere on V-day. Maybe chocolate, or an intriguing mixology drink with coffee, rose petals and strawberries? After all, you’re in Playa del Carmen to have fun.

The next stop could be a walk down Fifth Avenue, where you might run into another group of friends. Maybe you’ll all go to the beach together and throw together a little party.

It doesn’t take much: a couple of cellphones, the right attitude and the will to have fun.

For those traveling with their significant other

If this is your first time, you should know that Playa del Carmen is one of the most romantic destinations you could visit. The beach, the ocean, the weather… all that, with the extra help you can get from the concierge service some places offer, will definitely make for a perfect evening.

At places like Happy Address, everything’s ready for you to simply arrive and let us make your plan happen.

For those traveling solo

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying one’s own company. Don’t forget: it’s better to be alone than in bad company. But what could be better company than the turquoise-blue Caribbean, the white sand, one of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world, exotic fauna and the freedom to go anywhere you want?

That’s right. Playa del Carmen is the perfect place to be on February 14, no matter who you arrive with or who you leave with. But if you’re looking for accommodation that will adapt to your needs instead of vice versa, you should explore Happy Address’s options.

What’s New Year’s like in the place where the party never stops?

The December holidays are already here; still not sure where to spend the holiday season?

Many might tell you these holidays should be reserved for family, but that shouldn’t stop you from turning them into an experience like you’ve never imagined, surrounded by the people you love, with weather you never thought would be ideal for Christmas. Let us help you imagine all the possibilities during your New Year’s holiday in the Mayan Riviera.

Goodbye snowman…

Hello, sandman! If preserving your holiday traditions while traveling with your family is important to you, why not create the tropical version of the snowman? A “sandman” also means you’ll be on the beach, with a cocktail or a juice, feeling the breeze and about to take a refreshing dip.

Christmas lights on palm trees?

You won’t find many pine trees in the Caribbean, but there are a lot of palm trees, characterized by their shape, their giant proportions and for providing excellent shade for cooling off. The Caribbean awaits you with palm trees and coconuts… everything you need for Christmas, but with its own unique style.

Gifts for all

The Caribbean gives you many things: wonderful sunrises, picturesque sunsets, a wonderful culture, warm people and good humor wherever you are. During this holiday season, visiting the Mayan Riviera is a guarantee that both the family’s youngest and oldest members will have fun from the first to the last day.

The party where the music never ends

If your thing is nighttime fun, the Mayan Riviera has the most vibrant nightlife: meet new people, dance until dawn, have fun, walk down Fifth Avenue, feel safe. Everything is waiting for you.

The freedom to be yourself

Accommodation options like Happy Address allow you to stay in a place without the strict rules of a hotel, with your rules, your preferences, so you can enjoy your family and your traditions, but with an unbeatable Caribbean flavor.

The essential Caribbean vacation holiday kit

We know you’re planning to make the most of your next vacation in the Caribbean, and specifically the Mayan Riviera. The winter holidays are almost upon us, and they’re a great time to visit this earthly paradise.

Some people think Mexican hospitality means treating our visitors to habanero chilies until they cry, but that’s far from the truth. What matters the most to us is helping you have an unforgettable vacation, so you’ll fall in love with our destinations and plan to come back. That’s why we’ve prepared a list of essential items you should bring when vacationing in the Mayan Riviera.

Sunblock

The Caribbean is sunny. Very sunny, almost all day long. It’s perfect for a good tan, but you should also be very careful. Sunblock is a must, especially if you’re fair-skinned; you don’t want a sunburn to ruin your vacation, do you?

Comfortable shoes

At least two pairs: sneakers for walking and flats to go out at night. High heels aren’t the best option, since most of the time you’ll be either dancing or walking between bars or restaurants on the beach.

Goggles or snorkel mask

If you’re visiting these turquoise waters, home to the second largest coral reef system in the world, why would you miss out on actually seeing it? Of course, they’re easy to find here (you can even ask your concierge to get them for you), but if you already own a pair or have a preferred brand or model, it’s always a good idea to bring them with you.

Light clothing

Light-colored clothes will be your best friends, and basic items (tees, button-down shirts and shorts) will work great for every occasion. Ninety percent of restaurants and bars have a casual dress code, so there’s no need to overthink this.

Bug repellent

If you’re the adventurer type and hope to wander in the jungle to discover what it has to offer, bug repellent is a must. Bug bites can be uncomfortable, and you don’t want to be inconvenienced while you’re having fun.

A Happy Address reservation

To really make the most of the Mayan Riviera, you need to feel like yourself. Happy Address is a vacation rental option that offers exceptional service at an amazing price, along with the freedom to be yourself throughout your vacation.

Holbox: island beauty and respect for nature

Holbox is one of the best-kept secrets of the Yucatan Peninsula. Located north of Quintana Roo and at about 25 mi (40 km) long and 1.2 mi (2 km) wide, this island of 1,500 residents captivates visitors and encompasses beauty and respect for nature from end to end.

This colorful place, which is part of the biosphere reserve and the Yum Balam Flora and Fauna Protection Area, is about 20 minutes away by ferry, during which you will undoubtedly encounter dolphins and other marine species.

Sustainable ecotourism projects obviously have a place on this island; it’s a natural refuge for many endangered species, including the whale shark, the largest fish in the world. In addition, as part of a commitment to respect nature, there are no paved roads or parking lots, streets are made using white sand, there are no cars and people use bikes, golf carts or motorcycles to get around.

This paradise is a mix of jungle, lagoons, mangroves and more.

Holbox has become an attractive tourist destination thanks to its Caribbean weather, mystical Mayan culture, small, low-impact hotels, cabanas and campsites and the respect all its inhabitants have for the environment.

We don’t always have the opportunity to visit a unique sanctuary like this one, where the clouds drift by, waiting for the stars to appear as a celestial blanket.

The man who brought art to the beach in Playa del Carmen

Any child that’s been to the beach has had fun building a sand castle. Sand is a perfect way to let your imagination run wild. You don’t even have to build anything; you can write on it or leave your footprint. It’s a way to awaken your inner artist, and so much more.

José Luis González Ortiz took that passion and imagination to the next level: sand sculpture. An art characterized by dedication, but also by impermanence.

Jose Luis has been living in Playa del Carmen for more than 12 years, and while he is originally from Venezuela, those from Playa del Carmen know your place of origin doesn’t matter: those of us who live here have Playa in our heart, and that’s what counts.

This unique artist is inspired by music, everyday situations, nature and his desire to share his art; he believes imagination is contagious, and he helps artists concentrate on creating a sand sculpture.

It hasn’t been an easy road for Jose Luis; the work is very demanding, but his passion and dedication have gotten him where he is today.
