Five perfect songs for your Mayan Riviera vacations?

Playa del Carmen is a unique place with a special personality that offers one-of-a-kind experiences for all visitors. Because music is always with you and fills the best moments of your life with emotions, we thought it would be interesting to build a playlist with five songs you shouldn’t leave out when you visit this tropical paradise.

What was our selection criteria?

We only considered the atmospheres you’ll encounter, the landscapes you’ll enjoy and the experiences you’ll live—that was the criteria.

Are you ready?

Cozumel- Cerati and Melero

Gustavo Cerati has always been a versatile singer-songwriter. In this song it feels like both his music and lyrics invite you to become a swallow flying over this marvelous island, floating on the sea breeze.

Wouldn’t It Be Nice – The Beach Boys

There’s a reason why the Beach Boys are called that: their music is so light, fun and easy to listen to, you’ll want it to be the soundtrack to having fun in the sand with your friends.

It’s Oh So Quiet – Björk

There will come a time when sunset will fall as softly as a feather, while the birds fly back to their nests and tourists take a nap. Everything will be peaceful and quiet, and then will wake up all over again.

Mi gente – J Balvin

J Balvin is a singer-songwriter who writes lyrics everyone can relate to. “Mi Gente,” besides being catchy, is an anthem for the cosmopolitan, for people from all over the world coming together in a brotherhood—but not a corny brotherhood, one that goes beyond the heart.

En el mar – Tin Tan

This is a classic Mexican beach song that plainly states that life is better and love is stronger by the sea. You can’t argue with that!

Bonus track: Cuando calienta el sol – Luis Miguel

If by any chance Mexican singer Luis Miguel had stopped being on everyone’s mind, Netflix fixed that by making a mini-series about his life. “Cuando calienta el sol” is a light, fun, romantic song that will immediately transport you to a world of teenage love by the sea, enjoying a refreshing drink.

What songs would you add to our Mayan Riviera vacation playlist?

The virtuosity of electronica

There aren’t many musical genres as divisive as electronica. On the one hand, there are people who don’t consider it music; on the other, some other are so passionate about it they stop thinking about how it’s played and enjoy it for its sensory effects.

As with everything, extremes often cloud the mind and impair objective perception.

However, there are musicians who have taken electronica to a whole new level. One of them is Above and Beyond, a group that will make you go “wow” before you can stop yourself:

Christian Varela is another great artist, capable of creating an indescribable atmosphere, somewhere between goosebumps and the urge to dance. Don’t believe us? Here is his full 2016 BPM set.

Air is one of those bands who use electronica to create registers we couldn’t have imagined. This year happens to be the 20th anniversary of their classic album Moon Safari:

As you can see, you don’t have to be a die-hard electronica fan in order to enjoy the music. Throughout the Mayan Riviera, and more specifically in Playa del Carmen, you’ll be able to find some of the best sets by DJs and other genre specialists, whether you like to dance or just relax and enjoy the music.

And of course, if you need a place to stay while you listen, Happy Address is the place for you.

Songs you won’t stop listening to while on vacation

Okay, summer’s here. We know you’re ready to go on vacation and take all the fun with you to a paradise-like destination. With family or friends, summers are meant to be enjoyed without a care in the world, and of course, to the beat of fun music.

So what songs will you be hearing non-stop this summer?

Here’s a small list. Whether you love or hate catchy, rhythmic beats, it’s always a good idea to know what’s delighting (or torturing) your ears.

Hey Ma – Pitbull, J. Balvin, Camila Cabello

This three-way collaboration comes from the soundtrack of The Fate of the Furious. Colorful, with a catchy beat and Camila Cabello’s sweet vocals to counter Pitbull’s style, this track will definitely be playing at most beach clubs, especially in the Caribbean.

Reguetón Lento- CNCO

Remember those slow reggaetón beats people don’t dance to anymore? We do, and they were nothing like this super catchy tune, whose chorus has given way to an endless number of parodies on YouTube. While this song is performed by a boyband, we all know music is rather ageless.

Vente pa’ca- Maluma and Ricky Martin

Undoubtedly two of pop music’s hottest acts, this Puerto Rican/Colombian duet is loaded with rhythm and sexiness.

Despacito-Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee

Of course, there’s no escaping this instant, massive hit. Whether it’s the original version or the remix featuring Justin Bieber, you’ll hear Despacito everywhere you go.

Without a doubt, Playa del Carmen’s hotels, gourmet restaurants and beach clubs will have these songs on rotation all day long. Would you like to enjoy a vacation where you make your own playlist?
